Poetry from NHI publications

FIRST
In January
there is always
the first aconite
the sharp delight
of finding it
— equate it
with the suddeness
of meeting you
the first time
spring tensing
every sense.
Later primroses
daffodils
amd full leaf trees
will take over —
but nothing is quite
so full of promise
as that first
discovery.
