APRIL COMET
Hale-Bopp
Comets are
long before we see them.
Comets are
long after they have gone.

You were a comet in my April
heard of before you came
searing still nights with bright words
blazing a trail about my ears
lighting my thoughts,
unstoppable.

Long after you fired those thoughts
and swept with peacocked tail
out of my compassed way
I still remember that spring
and the comet that was you
