PICKINGS

Poetry from NHI publications

I CAN FORGIVE HER ALMOST ANYTHING
It's almost magic how she turns
the bathroom into a rain forest —
the heat and the humidity
of a long hot bath —
all the sensuality of the tropics.

And when she comes out
I cannot neglect the glory
of her gracefully cuvetted limbs
or the gleam of her smile
under the wet strands of her hair.

It's almost magic how she steals
and plunders my heart
within the embrace of her bath
and how it makes me glad
even though there's no hot water left.
